Why This Site Exists
North Carolina inmate information is spread across many agencies. Each county sheriff manages local jail custody for pretrial detainees, recent arrests, and some shorter local commitments. NCDAC runs a separate offender locator for people in state prison custody or North Carolina community supervision, and its own public-records page explains that it does not maintain county or city jail records. Federal Bureau of Prisons, ICE, VINELink, and the courts each cover different pieces of the larger custody and case-record picture.
What You Will Find Here
The site is arranged around the decisions a reader usually has to make before searching.
- Guides for inmate records, jail rosters & mugshots, and court records after an arrest.
- A full County Directory for finding the county-level inmate population site and jail roster path.
- A statewide Facility Directory covering county jails, NCDAC prisons, federal facilities, ICE-related routing, and other documented detention facilities.
- Help distinguishing NCDAC inmate search, county jail lookup, BOP locator, ICE detainee search, VINELink notifications, and North Carolina court records.
What This Site Cannot Do
North Carolina Inmate Population is privately operated. It is not part of any North Carolina sheriff's office, jail, court, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, ICE, or any other government agency.
- We cannot release, hold, transfer, or move anyone in custody.
- We cannot post bond, schedule visits, send money, or deliver messages.
- We cannot give legal advice or interpret a court order for you.
- We cannot promise that every roster entry, fee, phone number, address, or release status is current.
Current custody status, charges, release, and record availability must be confirmed with the office that created or maintains the official record.
Search Partners
Some pages may include search boxes or links supplied by third-party research providers. Those providers set their own prices, account rules, search coverage, and privacy terms. If a visitor chooses a paid partner service after using a link or tool from this site, the site may receive a referral fee. That support helps keep this statewide reference available, but it does not give us control over a partner's results, charges, or data practices.
